I like good food and I like art and I like old skool station wagons (the ones that are a massive tank and you’d never want to have to drive let alone park it in San Francisco) and I like kids and I like cool homes. I’ve gotten to play/photograph in some really cool homes. If I was the little girl who lived in this home I’d be really really happy…and these photos don’t even begin to cover how cool this house really is:

The Week in Review
Yeah, so while I’ve been taking photos every day (woot woot!) I have not been posting. Fail. Here is a loooong week in review. I give myself a 24.5% chance I can keep this up, ha! Oh, and since the photo below is unfortunately not scratch ‘n sniff…the french toast was made by Ctron and it is coconut crusted and filled with either dulce de leche or nutella… and has a browned butter banana topping. Um, yumholes.

focus on the little things…the week in review.
I have been feeling creatively inspired lately and on the trip back from Washington I said to C-tron “C-tron! Remind me when we get home that I want to paint this and sew that and draw this and take photos of that and write this and read that and cook this and try to eat that!” Well, we are 6 days in and so far pllllmmmmmmfffffffffff. None of the above have been accomplished. I suppose it is like a new years resolution to get fit (also something I need to do) and so you join a gym but never go…being a creative spirit I vow to feed that part of my brain and then don’t follow through (at least I don’t have to pay the gym membership fees!). Anyhow…the one thing I am attempting along with so many people this month of January is a photo a day. Not so much for the art but to just capture a moment in each day when I’m grateful or that brings joy. While some days have LOTS of these little moments and others are a bit mundane I think it helps me focus on the little things that make me really happy. So, here are a few from the past week…maybe this will become a new weekly thing, wouldn’t that be grand? (Side note: unfortunately this project will probably all be iphone photos since it takes me a bit less time to process them but that is ok….just don’t think less of me as a photographer for doing so).

a very merry holiday from the PNW
We’ve had a very merry holiday here in the pacific northwest. A looksee/photo log of the happenings via my trusty iphone:
One of my VERY favorite things to do in the world is to go on long long walks. Walking is my form of meditation. C-tron’s mom’s house is on a great road with a good long loop and lots of trails to get lost on. This photo is from that long loop (which I could loop around 293759283752 times if I had nothing to do):
As most people do this time of year we ate A LOT. From Spanish hot chocolate to spring rolls to persimmon pudding to homemade maple fudge to larb gai to shepherds pie to millionaires bars to pepperkaker to two pumpkin pies to pot roast…we ate a bit. For Xmas gifts C-tron’s mom and I made persimmon freezer jam. I am learning to venture more into the world of persimmons but I would say this freezer jam is fantabulous (I can post a recipe if you are curious about the jam):
At the stroke of midnight on Christmas day we lit the Christmas tree. And what I love about C-tron’s mom’s traditions is she puts actual candles on her tree! So lighting is not just plugging it into the outlet…I’m talking potential burning down the house process. After the tree was lit we all sipped Bailey’s and watched the tree. Such an awesome ceremony….100% a tradition I’d like to try to keep up. (this photo is taken during the day but you can see the candles).
Christmas day we made homemade crumpets! Who knew they were not too hard to make?!?! Actually, I just ate them so maybe that is why they were so easy to make.
It was a bit rainy (go figure PNW!) so we worked on a cheese puzzle:
And I loved skyping with my family. Especially when it turned into long sessions where I ended up in crying laughter:

thank you to our neighbors
We’ve yet to do our own big Christmas where we chop down a tree and decorate like a modern Martha and make the homemade eggnog and sing Christmas carols to each other all while wearing tacky sweaters and such but we are starting to slowly get there. This year we put up a simple string of lights along our photo wall….AND….thanks to our great neighbors and their discarded holiday items donated as giveaways in the hall we have a small fake tree with ornaments! It is like a new day in our home, full of a teensy bit of Christmas spirit.
Oh, and see if you can spot me in the photo of our tree (spoiler, I have the answer in the second image).

“the least flattering photo of me yet”
C-tron did a little editorial fashion shoot in our loft this weekend. Here is a photo from my iphone:
The shoot involved wigs and I got a little excited about that. So excited that when there was a moments break I threw one on:
Unfortunately I put it on backwards and wasn’t wearing any makeup and of course Cooper took a photo. Shortly after he declared “I think this is the least flattering photo of you yet.” Oh man. So sorry sir. Luckily he already married me but hopefully he can remember that at very select times I can look like just a little more presentable. I know this posting isn’t going to help get me jobs but I just think it is so funny and since life is too short to be serious all the time I feel like it is ok to laugh at yourself once in awhile. Plus, I have no shame. Oh, and if they ever made a Little Miss Sunshine II I could play the brother!
Extra special side note: the wigs from the shoot inspired me so much that today Ctron and I spent part of our day driving in the ghetto parts of Oakland looking at several wig shops. Yes, we really did that.

I have an idea for the world…
Over the weekend I went with my men to The Fremont Diner in Sonoma for some good soul food.
While there I saw two guys who kept looking over at our table. I’m not sure what the draw to us may have been, probably C-tron’s good looks or maybe they hate dogs at restaurants, but then I thought, “Maybe they are talking about buying our lunch!” (and then I laughed in my head because that was a silly thought…no one does that). But it got me thinking…given the poor economy and knowing how so many people are struggling…what if we started a movement to anonymously cover the tab (or even a portion of the tab) for a random unsuspecting stranger/s? I know a lot of us don’t have a lot of extra spending cash but I know how good it feels to do something for others and how good it feels to be the recipient of a random act of kindness. Imagine your reaction if you were the giver or receiver. Might give people a little ray of light in such a bummer of a time. Oh, and this would have to be done anonymously so as not to insight any feelings of guilt or push back from the receiver. Alright, that is just my thought for the day. Go do it.

It is the weekend and we are going to stay inside and work (surprise!) but possibly come up for air on Sunday and go out to lunch here.

Halloween has come and gone. Five things of note:
1.) Happening upon an unexpected dog Halloween party while walking with your dog on Halloween night is delightful. Our dog wasn’t dressed for the party but he looks quite like a black sheep so that counts, right?
2.) Living in a building full of lofts where people like to open their doors and throw multiple Halloween parties all at once is also quite delightful. Kind of like a college dorm but with 30+ year olds. I don’t think I found any pee in the hall so I guess maybe not quite college dorm but close.
3.) I’ve come to the point in my life where Facebook on Halloween is now comprised of kids/babies in costumes rather than big adult peoples in costumes. Congrats to all the mamas and papas out there…you guys have a lot of really cute kids.
4.) Also, related to #3 why hadn’t anyone thought to create the warm/cozy sweat suit-ish costumes in the 80’s to keep us kids warm way back when? I recall lots of hard plastic and thin fabrics and the first night of snow happening on Halloween night.
5.) C-tron and I declared that every Halloween we would like to institute a tradition of caramel apple eating. Caramel apple eating is good for the soul (as long as we don’t have dentures).
Homemade salted caramel sauce, a couple of apples, paired with The Bruery Autumn Maple beer, a glass of milk (to be consumed with the apple not with the beer) and the movie Halloween = even more delightful feelings.
Three cheers to Jamie Lee Curtis! (we really did cheers to her and yes I really did take a photo of our TV while watching the movie. I had the camera right there so I thought “Why not?!”).
